Cognitive and Connective Learning
What the project is
A short, interactive micro-learning module exploring the difference between cognitive learning (individual, knowledge-focused) and connective learning (social, networked).
Follows two characters preparing for medical volunteer work in Africa, each taking a different approach to learning.
Uses a comic book-inspired storytelling style with hand-drawn illustrations to make theory accessible and engaging.
Originally built in PowerPoint, later transformed into a more interactive experience using Articulate 360.

How it helps
Shows that there is no single ‘right way’ to learn. Different methods suit different people and contexts.
Highlights the benefits and limitations of both approaches by showing characters’ real successes and challenges.
Demonstrates that a blended approach, combining cognitive and connective learning, can be most effective.
Encourages learners to reflect on their own preferred learning styles and how they might adapt in new environments.
Learning Techniques Used
Storytelling and real life situations to provide context to abstract concepts
Scenario-Based Learning (SBL): learners observe how different approaches play out in practice.
Visual narrative (comic style): illustrations enhance engagement and memorability.

Tools Used
Procreate (iPad): for custom hand-drawn illustrations.
PowerPoint: for initial storyboard and design.
Articulate 360 (Storyline): to create interactivity and a polished micro-learning format
