As a textile designer with a background in fashion and costume design, I bring creativity and design experience to every project. My story began with a degree in fashion design, leading to a rewarding career in the fashion industry before transitioning to costume design for film and theatre. Over the years, I’ve worked as a maker, designer, and buyer, honing my skills in crafting narratives through textiles and design.
About
Currently, I’m expanding my expertise by pursuing an MA in Instructional and Learning Design, combining my love for design and education. I believe in the power of lifelong learning and collaboration, embracing opportunities to both teach and learn. Whether working on a large-scale production or guiding a hands-on workshop, I strive to foster creativity, curiosity, and the joy of making.
My Philosophy of Learning
“Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think.”
I believe that learning is as much about understanding people as it is about delivering content. Every individual learns differently, and every subject demands a unique approach to teaching. It’s like being a detective—uncovering the methods that resonate with each learner.
I’m fascinated by active learning and storytelling, particularly scenario-based learning. Context is essential to me; if I don’t know how to apply information, I struggle to retain it. Learning by doing is, in my view, the most effective way to make knowledge stick. Similarly, peer-to-peer learning is an underutilized tool. Those who have recently learned something often make the best teachers—they empathize with the struggles of understanding and can share what worked for them.
Creativity also plays a key role in my learning philosophy. Engaging learners starts with capturing their attention, as highlighted in the first step of Gagné’s Nine Events of Instruction. A creative approach can inspire curiosity and make learning truly memorable.
At its core, my philosophy is simple: learning should encourage thinking, not just remembering. By fostering curiosity, collaboration, and practical application, I aim to create learning experiences that are meaningful and transformative.
Instructional Design Experience
Additionally, I designed a scenario-based learning experience informed by research into connectivist and cognitivist theories. To make the learning journey more immersive and unique, I incorporated my own illustrations, blending creativity with pedagogy.
I am passionate about combining research-driven methods with creative elements to design learning experiences that are both effective and engaging. My instructional design journey is rooted in curiosity, adaptability, and a dedication to creating impactful learning opportunities for diverse audiences.
With a strong foundation in teaching in-person workshops, I have recently transitioned my skills into the field of instructional design. Currently pursuing an MA in Instructional and Learning Design, I am developing a diverse portfolio of learning assets through both academic assignments and hands-on projects.
One of my key projects involved creating a visually engaging PowerPoint presentation that explored the history and theory of behaviorism, showcasing my ability to distill complex concepts into accessible and clear formats.
