The artist: Hi, I'm Gemma and this is one of a series of miniature portraits I am currently working on.
I am a freemotion embroidery artist that simply wants to share the faces of strong women.

The Process: This embroidery on canvas was created by hand using a technique called freemotion embroidery. I started with a pencil drawing which I then transferred onto the fabric. I then used my sewing machine like a pencil and stitch over the lines. I essentially draw with my sewing machine. The result is a unique and original embroidery of fine lines and delicate detail. I then add an extra element with pencil, crayon or paint.
